Jaya opens up about family issues during her late mother’s burial

“So I let them have the body (of my mom). Nilibing nila on a borrowed land. Sinong tama o mali? Borrowed land. ‘Pag ‘yun may kamag-anak na kailangan gamitin ang lupa, itatanggal siya (Mama Beth). That was precisely my point. Let’s cremate her (Mama Beth), (then) bring the ashes to her brother in Negros Occidental. Mahirap ba ‘yun? (Sabi nila) ‘Hindi, hindi pwede kasi ‘yung kaluluwa nandyan pa sa katawan!’ (Sabi ko) ‘Patay na ‘yan. Di mo pwedeng sabihin na may kaluluwa ‘yan. Edi (kung meron) tumayo ‘yan, sinabi niyang mali kayong lahat.’”

The Kapuso singer-actress also revealed that she did not attend the burial of her mother to give way to her relatives and avoid any confrontation that may take place. When asked by the press, how does she feel that she was not able to be by her mother’s side before she was laid to rest, Jaya explained that she has no regrets because she already had the opportunity and time to be with her mother while she was still alive.
