President Rodrigo Duterte apologized to the Jewish community for his remarks comparing him to German leader Adolf Hitler. Duterte compared his fight against drugs to that of Hitler killing the Jews during the Second World War.
The statement drew various reactions from the UN, Germany and international rights groups.

At the opening of the 37th Masskara festival in Negros Occidental, Duterte apologized for his remarks and said it was never his intention to derogate the memory of 6 million Jews murdered by the Germans.
“I would like to make it here and now that there was never an intention on my part to derogate the memory of the six million Jews murdered by the Germans. I apologize profoundly and deeply to the Jewish community,” said President Duterte.
