Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach received a check of $10,000 USD from the Philippine Independence Day Council Inc., (PIDCI) as she attended the annual Philippine Independence Day Ball at the Teaneck Marriott Hotel in New Jersey last June 10.
PIDCI President Mr. Prospero Lim together with Philippine Consul General Mario de Leon handed the $10,000 USD to Pia as she graced the concluding activity of PIDCI. During Pia’s speech as the Guest of Honor of the grandiose event, she said that the check will be donated to Love Yourself Inc., a (Youth and LGBT-MSM) community of volunteers that aims to spread awareness, education andcounseling regarding HIV/AIDS.
Love Yourself Inc., was introduced to her by her good friend and designer Mark Bessie Besana, who happens to have a friend who is an active advocate of the said organization.
As Pia continues to tour the world as the reigning Miss Universe 2015, she’s became more vocal in her HIV/AIDS and gender equality advocacies.
