PBB 737 rating classification: From ‘PG’ to ‘SPG’

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) sent a summon letter to the ABS-CBN and Sky Cable Corporation calling the attention of the ABS-CBN Executives specifically the people behind the reality show Pinoy Big Brother 737 (PBB 737) for the network’s “alleged failure to protect the welfare and development of minor housemates and other concerns about self-regulation.”

The letter states that it is not only the “bromance” between housemates Kenzo Gutierrez and Bailey Thomas May which led the board to send the letter but also in disturbing scenes involving both male and female young housemates closely engaging in flirtatious talk and actions.

In connection with this, the MTRCB requested the network and SkyCable’s representatives to present their side on Thursday (July 9, 2015). As resource agencies, the MTRCB also invited the National Youth Commission (NYC), the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) and the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT).

On their Twitter account, the MTRCB shared updates during the hearing stating that the said agencies, organizations and ABS-CBN executives are present. Here are some of their photos:

Also, on Thursday (July 9, 2015), MTRCB co-chairperson Ricardo Salomon and the board instructed the people behind PBB 737 “to enter into a strict and close collaboration with the Board, beginning (today) July 10 until the end of the PBB 737 season.”

By close collaboration, the board means instructing ABS-CBN and Sky Cable to put up the following reminder: “This program may contain sensitive material. Viewer discretion is advised.” The board also raised the classification of PBB 737 from “PG” (Parental Guidance required) to “SPG” (Strong Parental Guidance) starting on Friday, (July 10, 2015).
