

“It was so difficult for her to speak or open her eyes so we responded with pressing of hand. But for one last time, she said mama, I love you. That was the last voice. Then everything was a nod or hand press. Until I left her and her oxygen just dropped. Her heart was good… Her lungs was just filled up with an infection… Mixed with the disease. She fought so hard. Tried to breathe properly with all effort.”
During the first weeks of March 2016, Caitie was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML); a rare cancer of the blood which targets infants and toddlers. Prior to Caitie’s diagnosis in Singapore, she and her family received a couple of inconclusive diagnoses in various hospitals in Manila.
