MTRCB summons “Eat Bulaga” over Tito Sotto’s ‘insensitive’ remarks

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summoned the executives of GMA 7’s noontime variety show ‘Eat Bulaga’ after a comment made by some of the show’s host drew outrage from Filipinos online.

In the letter dated July 11, the regulatory board called for a conference over the remarks Senator Tito Sotto made which were “alleged to be insensitive to women” during the show’s July 9 episode. The MTRCB is set to meet TAPE Inc. president Antonio Tuviera, senior vice president Malou Choa-Fagar, and “Eat Bulaga” creative head Jenny Ferre on July 21 at the MTRCB office in Quezon City.

The said inquiry will investigate on Sotto’s “victim-blaming” comment which he made in reference to the ‘Juan for All, All for Juan’ winner who claimed she was taken advantage of by her friends whilst she was drunk. The woman claimed to have no recollection of the incident, which led to her marriage’s demise.

“Kasalanan ng lahat ng iyan eh ang paginom. Kababae mong tao pa-shot shot ka?,” Sotto remarked, which drew criticism from citizens.

Sotto’s statement was followed by taunting from one of the segment’s host, Jose Manalo, who made a “re-enactment” of the incident.
