Actor John Lloyd Cruz was named 39th Gawad Urian Best Actor for his role in “Honor Thy Father” during the awards ceremony at the Kia Theater in Cubao, Quezon City.
Many were surprised when during his acceptance speech, the actor said ” “Hindi po ako naniniwala sa awards.” John Lloyd went on to say: “Pero naniniwala po ako that there is honor in hard work, patience, perseverance, and timing.”
The actor went on to thank his team, the management and production and at the the end of his speech, John Lloyd explained the reason behind his opening line:
“In case you find my first sentence puzzling, I also came here tonight as an actor to give honor and celebrate my pure love for cinema. Mabuhay po kayong lahat,” said John Lloyd.
