Over a month ago, award-winning director Erik Matti—who is set to direct the film remake—gave his opinion on the possibility of Jessy portraying the iconic role of “Darna” by saying,
“Si Jessy has the built. Maputi lang siya masyado. Personal ko ito na comment ha, hindi ito comment ng ABS-CBN. Maputi lang masyado si Jessy. Pinay dapat.”
