18-year-old Instagram star Essena O’Neill announced that she is quitting her social media life for the simple reason that she does not consider it a “real” life and refused to be consumed by it.
Essena had half a million followers on Instagram, 200,000 on YouTube and Tumblr, and 60,000 on Snapchat.
On Vimeo, Essena posted the following:
“There is nothing cool about spending all your time taking edited pictures of yourself to prove to the world ‘you are enough’. Don’t let numbers define you. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not enough without excessive makeup, latest trends, 100+ likes on a photo, ‘a bikini body’, thigh gap, long blonde hair.” said Essena.
