Sexbomb member and former Eat Bulaga talent Sugar Mercado broke her silence and filed a VAWC ( Violence Against Women And Children) case against her estranged husband and his parents to issue a protection order for the benefit of herself and her children.
In an article published in the official website of Gabriela (http://www.gabrielawomensparty.net/), Sugar alleged that her husband Kristoffer Jay Go inflicted repeated emotional and physical abuse on her, sometimes with the direct and indirect involvement of Go’s parents since 2010.

In a narrative, Mercado alleged that her husband Kristoffer Jay Go inflicted repeated emotional and physical abuse on her, sometimes with the direct and indirect involvement of Go’s parents since 2010.
Repeated expressions of threats against her life and taking away her custody of children convinced her to file a legal case to protect her rights. Mercado approached the women’s rights group Gabriela Women’s Party, one of the main authors of the anti-VAWC law for support. The women’s group also intends to provide counselling services to Mercado to help empower her.
Gabriela Representative Emmi De Jesus expressed her support and commended Mercado for being able to gather courage to break free from the usual cycle of violence and powerlessness that prevents Filipinas from escaping the early stages of a domestic that is growing unsafe for women and their children.
“We hope that the legal process that Ms. Mercado chose to pursue results to a safer and more secure future for her and family. Every time an abused woman stands up, another is encouraged and inspired to do the same. Gabriela encourages society to continue being vigilant against VAWC cases and help direct victims of violence to the proper venues where their problems can be addressed. Women should not feel alone and women should know that violence is not normal in any relationship.”
