Individuals with human immunodeficiency virus or HIV were still perfectly capable of working in public despite their condition however, Renato Nocos, a hairdresser in Gandang Ricky Reyes Salon (Ricky Reyes Corporation) said that the beauty salon company fired him after being diagnosed with HIV.
In connection with this, the hairdresser sued the said company for they stopped paying him SSS and PhilHealth contributions. He also filed charges of discrimination, underpayment of wages, illegal dismissal, and non-payment of holiday pay and separation pay before the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC).
In an interview with GMA’s 24 Oras on Wednesday (July 1, 2015) Renato said, “Nung nagkasakit ako ng TB, kasi pinapahinga niya ako ng six months na may sahod. Binigyan pa niya ako ng vitamins. (Pero) parang sarado yung isip niya sa sakit na HIV.”
