Eversince the loveteam of Alden Richards and Maine ‘Yaya Dub’ Mendoza was introduced, the noontime habits of most Filipinos were never the same again.
People from all walks of life can’t get enough of the team up more popularly known as AlDub. What is the secret behind the success of AlDub? What is the reason behind the ‘AlDub’ magic?
In an interview with GMA News 24 Oras’ “Chika Minute” on Wednesday (August 12, 2015), Psychologist Brother Clifford Sorita provided an explanation with regards to the AlDub phenomenon.

Brother Sorita says many viewers finds Alden and Yaya Dub’s love story relevant. He added that people can relate to Yaya Dub’s genuine character
“Nung tumapat ‘yung isang camera kay Alden, naging super conscious si Yaya Dub. Lumabas talaga ‘yung natural na pagkatao ni Yaya Dub na kung saan people can relate to it.” explains Brother Clifford.
He described the ‘AlDub’ fever as “Cinderella complex” where a simple girl like Yaya Dub can also be admired by someone as popular like Alden.
“Nagbibigay pag-asa dun sa mga tao na maski pala ako na ordinaryong tao lang mapapansin din pala ng taong popular,” said Brother Sorita.
He explained that Filipinos were also fond of “diamond in the rough” stories where a common person like Maine can also be noticed. Maine was first discovered through her ‘dubsmash’ videos which went viral.
“Pag iniisip ng tao, ah madi-discover din pala ako na maski ako ay nasa isang ordinaryong sitwasyon lang basta may potensyal pala ako, I can be discovered,” ended Brother Clifford.
