Sen. Tito Sotto criticized over “naano lang” remark about DSWD Sec. Judy Taguiwalo

Senator Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto was criticized over his ‘naano lang’ remark about DSWD Sec. Judy Taguiwalo being a single mom. During Sec. Taguiwalo’s confirmation hearing, Sen. Sotto asked Taguiwalo about her personal life.

““On a lighter side, Senator Drilon and I were looking at the personal information about you. And you have two children, daughters ba o sons…? Two daughers but you’re single?” asked the Senator.

Taguiwalo replied that her life has never been a normal one, that she never had a home-father-mother-children kind of thing.

After the explanation of Taguiwalo, Sotto said the following:

“Yung sa… in the street language, when you have children and you are single, ang tawag dun e, ‘naano’ lang.”

Taguiwalo then said ““Okay, Senator Sotto, I teach women’s studies, so we respect all kinds families, and that includes solo parents, Thank you.”

Various groups has demanded that Senator Sotto must issue a public apology for his remarks.
