MTRCB refers ‘PBB Badjao Girl’ episode for legal review

When the video of ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ teen housemate Rita Gabiola crying after her fellow teen housemates made fun of her undergarments circulated over social media, citizens were outraged with the “bullying” experienced by Rita inside the famed house.

While her housemates apologized for the act, many still decry the discrimination experienced by Rita who came from a poor family and is part of the indigenous group called Badjaos from Mindanao, the southern island group in the Philippines.

In a Facebook post, Albay representative Joey Salceda expressed his sentiments and concern on the said episode of the reality television show, stating that PBB must be “unequivocal against incipient discrimination, subconscious racism and the bullying it engenders in any contour and complexion, only made grievous by its grand display to a national audience.”

The post made rounds on social media and eventually caught the attention of the Movie and Television Regulatory and Classification Board (MTRCB).
