Miss World 2013 Megan Young will bring to life the character of “Thalia” for the second television adaptation of the hit Mexicanovela, “Marimar”. Meanwhile, Tom Rodriguez will take on the character of Sergio Santibanez.
The first version of Marimar was aired in 2007. Roles of Thalia and Sergio were previously portrayed by the Kapuso royal couple, Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes respectively.
The new version claims that it will be different from the original one. In an article published by GMA Network, the new lead stars (Megan and Tom) acknowledge that high expectations towards them are unavoidable.

“Actually parang kino-compare ko nga po siya sa time na nag-Miss World ako kasi noong time na ‘yon, malaki rin ang expectations nila. Tapos sabi ko na lang, I’ll do it in my own way na hindi ako susunod sa ginawa ng iba,” said Megan.
On the other hand, Tom said, “Hindi naman maiiwasan ‘yun. Sa akin naman, it doesn’t take away or add anything to what I’m doing.” He also added, ” You have to cast all that aside kasi you have to do your best and give justice to the material that you’re given. Parang ‘yun na lang ‘yung kaya kong gawin eh, ‘yung trabaho ko para magbigay-respeto sa materyal, sa manonood, at sa network.”
On her Instagram account, Soul Diva, Jaya shared a photo captioned: “Thank you Lord for this blessing. Will be working with a great team and great actors…nerbiyos nako in fair!!! Masaya po ito…Abangan sa GMA7. @gary_g1ne”. As what the Soul Diva had mentioned, the Marimar remake is composed of a great cast including Jacquelyn Jose, Carmi Martin, Dion Ignacio, Candy Pangilinan, Jaya, Lauren Young and a lot more.
“Marimar” features the story of a poor woman, Thalia and the son of the Ibañez estate, Sergio. The two fall in love with each other but Sergio’s family was against their marriage. Despite Sergio’s family hostility towards their relationship, they prove that love knows no boundaries.
