Actor John Lloyd Cruz who was named Best Actor at the recently concluded 39th Gawad Urian was criticized for his acceptance speech during the awarding ceremony held at the Kia Theater. John Lloyd won the award for the film “Honor Thy Father.”
John Lloyd surprised many by saying “Hindi po ako naniniwala sa awards.” But the actor claried that what he meant was it is not the award that is important but the honor that comes with it.

“Hindi ‘yung award. It’s the honor that goes with it. ‘Yun ang mas mahalaga para sa akin. Sa paghihintay ko for the right time, that was a long process. Napakatagal kong hinintay ‘yung pagkakataon na ‘yun. Hindi ko naman inakala na may pupuntahan ‘yung pagsugal ko. Kaya importante ‘yung mga binigkas kong salita because ‘yun ang suma-tutal ng aking journey, yung kabuuan ng aking pinagdaanan” John Lloyd said.
