‘Yaya meal’ in Balesin angers former beauty queen

Former Binibining Pilipinas-World and fashion designer Maggie Wilson-Consunji was fuming mad when she found out that Balesin Island Club is serving ‘Yaya’s meal’ or meals for nannies.

So what is a yaya’s meal? It’s a meal guests can ask from the resort for their yayas and drivers if they don’t want to pay the full meal price for their help.

Here is the narration of Maggie on her Facebook page:

Maggie finds the yaya meal offensive but she do understand that it is not the fault of Balesin to serve such meals but more of the members who are trying to cut cost.

CHISMS.net called a resort (not Balesin) to inquire if such a meal (yaya meal) is a common practice. The resort manager said that it is not a common practice but there are guests who wants a more affordable meal for their yayas and drivers and they have no choice but to offer a cheaper alternative or the yayas and drivers will go hungry. They call it budget meals.

Balesin Island sits in the Pacific Ocean, 35 kilometers off the eastern coast of Luzon. It is 20 minutes’ flight time from Manila, on Alphaland’s private fleet of airplanes, which are boarded at Alphaland’s private terminal. Balesin Island is about 500 hectares in size, of which less than 40 hectares (about 8%) will ever be developed. The majority of the island is undisturbed, original tropical rain forest. The island is ringed by more than seven kilometers of white sand beach.
