Velez and Israel have worked together in several films such as “Escolta: Mayo 13; Biyernes ng Hapon” (1976), “Gameng” (1977), and “Sa Nag-aapoy na Dagat” (1990).

On her Facebook and Instagram accounts, Velez shared a photo of Israel and called for donations, both in cash and in kind, to aid the veteran actor.

Velez wrote:

“Dick Israel is in dire need of aid after a fire razed his house in Caloocan City on Saturday. The actor, 57, had already fallen on hard times after he suffered a stroke in 2010 that left half his body paralyzed and impaired his speech. Damay Kamay is the coordinator of the fundraising campaign for our dear friend and co actor Dick Israel. Any support will be highly appreciated by us. Please take a photo of the deposit slip and send it to me or Damay Kamay so we can account for it…
