The former Beauty Queen, Precious Lara Quigaman have been receiving a lot of criticism when she posted different bible verses on her Instagram account last January 17, 2015. Netizens believe that the messages from the verses were posted by Lara in a bad timing since the pope was in the country.
Even if she did not directly mention Pope Francis in her posts, Lara received negative comments from netizens, stating that they got the impression that she is ‘disrespecting’ the Pope.
The first post was from the verse “Acts 4:12 (MSG).”
This was captioned by Lara with “Only through Jesus Christ.”
The second verse is about “John 14:6” captioned with “One Way.”
Though she was criticized because of her posts, others defended Lara and agreed with her.
She then posted an image with the word “Respect” with the caption “Sure I want to please my followers, but I also post for my own pleasure and more than that I want to please my God.”
She also said that even the Pope himself “reminded us to focus on God and not him” and cannot understand why some people were offended by her posts.
She said that she does respect Pope Francis and it saddens her that while people asks her to give respect it seems like they are the ones who are not giving her respect in the first place, Lara posted “Whether you are a Catholic or a Born Again, we are all Christians – and you will find that in your Bible. I’m sure even the Pope believes these verses”.
“And you know what made me sad? People asking me to respect them when I think they don’t even know what it means to respect someone. You are the ones who are not respecting me and what I believe in” the former beauty queen added.
