After various debates and discussions whether the recently crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach should be taxed with her winnings or not, the House Panel finally approved to exempt the beauty queen from paying taxes for a year.
It can be remembered that over a week ago, BIR commissioner Kim Henares explained that the law applies to all; requiring Pia to declare all her winnings when she comes home to the Philippines.

In an exclusive interview with Julius Babao on Bandila last Wednesday (January 27, 2016), Pia shared that she just recently got the news of being exempted from payment of taxes derived out of her winnings from the international pageant.
“But I was actually exempted already from my taxes I found out yesterday. For a year naman guys. But of course when they said that I was exempted I was very grateful din naman. So di ako nag-eexpect ng special treatment.”
