MTRCB summons GMA-7 for “The Rich Man’s Daughter” dialogue

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) invited GMA executives to their office in line with a vulgar dialogue in the July 8, 2015 episode of the hit series “The Rich Man’s Daughter.”

Those who had been invited were Jose Mari Abacan (Vice President for program management), Nieva Sabit (Executive Producer), Rosie Lyn Atienza (Associate Producer), Lore Reyes (Director), Suzette Doctolero (Head Writer of the show) and creative writers Geng Delgado, Jason Lim, and Paul Sta. Ana.

In the letter signed by MTRCB Chairman Toto Villareal and dated July 20, the executives were summoned to a mandatory conference on July 23.

On July 8 episode, “Wila,” (Katrina Halili) was advised by her friend, “Althea,” (Glaiza de Castro), “Ganyan talaga ang pakiramdam ng kabit. At ‘saka ‘pag kaharap ang pamilya, idedeny ka talaga.” This was in reply to Althea’s sentiment that her lover “Jade,” played by Rhian Ramos, denied their relationship in front of her “Angkong.”

MTRCB considered Wila’s line to be inappropriate to young viewers. The sensitive language has to be explained to young audience due to its implications to the dignity and integrity of marriage.

MTRCB added that the scene was beyond the program’s granted rating of “Parental Guidance” (PG).
