Liza Diño suggests solution over singers and non-singers issue

Former beauty queen and multi-awarded actress Liza Diño-Seguerra, the better half of singer Aiza Seguerra suggested some solutions about the ongoing debate regarding the singers and non-singers issue.

On her Facebook account, Liza posted the following:

In my previous post about the “non-singer vs singer” issue, I said something about us, the people, being catalysts for change. I was then told that, to say that we need change is just merely stating the obvious. Ano ba daw ang kailangan talagang gawin?

First ,let’s state the givens:

1. Music business will always be business-as-usual. They need to earn.
2. As of the moment, the non-singers are creating that income for them via albums, shows, etc.
3. Professional singers are affected by this trend esp the ones who do not have the platform to be exposed like their artista counterparts.
4. There is confusion caused by this trend kasi labu-labu ang mga singers at non-singers. They’re being put in one generalized category kasi pare-pareho silang lahat na may album.

In this post, I want to address this question regarding concrete solutions that we feel that could help in creating these changes.
(opinyon lang po naming mag-asawa ‘to )

Siguro unang-una dapat magkaroon ng separation at sariling category ang mga non-singers who have released their own albums and are doing shows. Pwedeng Magkaroon ng bagong classification sa kanilang genre para at least alam natin what to expect at ano ang makukuha natin from them (Like K-pop or j-pop)—– Something that can identify their kind of entertainment. Consumers will then be more informed and it will be fair to the bonafide OPM singers and musicians dahil hindi basta basta mapapabilang lang ang music nila with what we already have in our country at sa mga respective genre na kinabibilangan nila.

In terms of concerts, Siguro maganda rin that there is a category for those kinds of shows. Instead of labeling them as concerts, siguro pwedeng “Experience with Anne Curtis” or “a night of performance with Enchong Dee” , I mean, something other than the word CONCERT. Maybe it’s also a way to educate the people subconsciously kung ano ang differences ng mga shows na tinatangkilik nila. Na pag CONCERT ang pinuntahan mo, you’re in for a musical experience from professional singers and kung Performance or experience, hindi necessarily music from a professional singer ang core ng palabas. It can be a variety show, dance showcase, stand up comedy etc.

Regarding the production value of these shows, I am not questioning at all the talent of the people who have lent their geniuses to put up these productions. Dapat lang naman siguro na magagaling ang magmount ng mga show na ito because the production companies charge such a high price for it. Moreover, dahil hindi nga professional singers ang main act, it needs the services of these musicians and prod people to make the show work and worth it para sa mga taong manonood at para matulungan din ang main act to come up with a quality performance.

(Again, if these shows weren’t labeled as concert in the way we understand what concerts are, siguro mas maappreciate ng tao ang kind of entertainment na ginagawa nila. And the professional singers who do concerts, wont feel offended na they’re being put in the same cateogory.)

For the record, I am not against Anne, or Vice or Enchong or kung sino man na binanggit nung nagtanong sa akin sa post nya. I respect them as performers and I acknowledge what they do. But what Im bothered about is the fact that because we saw a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY out of this, naging laganap sya.And yung dating pwedeng tawaging novelty at paminsan-minsan lang, katulad ng nung time na nag-shoshow pa si ate Aiai (her name was mentioned) naging STANDARD na sa panahon natin ngayon. Ito na ang naging NORM nang hindi man lang nakakategorize ng mabuti to which “genre” they should belong to. Dun siguro nag-uugat ang mga hinaing at opinyon ng mga tao esp yung mga mismong naaapektuhan nito who happens to be our respected singers who take so much pride in what they do.

It’s not about being bitter. it’s about being given that due respect for the hardwork that these singers have put in just to be called a SINGER.
