Kapamilya star Gerald Anderson will be playing his first ever gay role for the upcoming December 12, 2015 episode of ABS-CBN’s drama anthology, “Maalala Mo Kaya.”
The actor shared in an interview with ABS-CBNNews that he is going to portray the life of Bert Mendoza who is suffering from X-linked Dystonia Parkinsonism (XDP).

“This is my first gay role. He’s a great person. Ang dami niyang mga tinutulungan na mga tao. He teaches in an elementary school. Bert ang pangalan niya. Dahil sa sakit niya, hindi na niya magawa ‘yung pagtulong niya sa mga bata.” said Gerald.
For an actor who has been depicting masculinity and machismo in most of his roles for the past years in the showbiz industry, Gerald said he did not hesitate in accepting the role.
“Masaya ako and excited ako ipakita yung kuwento niya.”
He added that he personally met Bert; and that he was inspired by Bert’s optimistic view on life despite everything he has been through.
“Nangilabot ako kasi grabe ‘yung mga pinagdaanan niya pero sinabi niya sa akin na, ‘I’m going to stay positive. I’m going to pray to God every day.”
