Fox has announced the cancellation of American Idol. The talent competition will call it quits after returning for a 15th and final season next January 2016. All three current judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. will return for the final go-round, so with host Ryan Seacrest.
Fox issued the following advisory:
“AMERICAN IDOL will begin its 15th – and final – season this January on FOX. A season-long celebratory event, AMERICAN IDOL XV will feature host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., as they search for the final IDOL superstar and pay tribute to the past 14 seasons of amazingly talented contestants and the millions of fans who tweeted, texted and championed their IDOLs.“
Reports indicated that competition from shows like “The Voice” and “X Factor” contributed to the steady decline of Idol’s viewership is one of the reasons why the show is being cancelled.
