Derek Ramsay goes from rom-comedy to sitcom

Derek Ramsay, the best actor  for the MMFF 2014, showed his versatility as an actor as he starred in a romantic comedy film entitled ‘English Only Please’, before, he is known portraying the lead male character for a drama film or a romantic TV series.

Now the actor takes another course to his acting career as he leads in the TV sitcom of the TV5 Network entitled “Mac & Chiz”.

Derek shared during the recent press conference for “Mac & Chiz” that besides landing serious roles for a drama or action themed project, he feels that he has something more to offer.

“If you noticed, I had some really extreme role changes as of late. I was the typical Derek that people are familiar with in ‘Trophy Wife’. After that, I jumped to playing a [protagonist] for the first time in ‘The Janitor’. I was happy I got a lot of compliments for doing that, and then I did my first rom-com with ‘English Only, Please’ which was totally different. I went from shooting people’s heads off to being a guy who’s making people [feel in love],” Derek said.

“I’ve been really challenging myself and have been trying to show the many things that I can do as an actor. Hopefully, more exciting projects will come my way,” he added.

Derek shared that he is looking forward working with comedian Empoy Marquez that plays as Derek’s twin brother in the said sitcom, Derek said that he knows that he can learn a lot from Empoy.

“I have the best guys to learn from. I’m going to be a little boy again learning from them when it comes to doing comedy” Derek uttered.

“Acting on TV and acting on the big screen are two different things. On TV, you are given more freedom to ad-lib and that’s what I have to learn from them” Derek added.

“Mac & Chiz” also stars Bianca King, Jojo Alejar and Jun Sabayton.
