Omar Mateen, 29, a New York-born Florida resident and U.S citizen, was caught red-handed at the scene of the Orlando gay club massacre on Sunday (June 12, 2016), where 50 people were killed.
Shots were fired at the crowded scene of the Pulse nightclub, where around 350 patrons were attending a Latin music event in conjunction with gay pride week celebrations.

Fifty-three people were wounded in the rampage, making it the deadliest single U.S. mass shooting incident; even eclipsing the Virginia Tech University massacre in 2007, where 32 people were killed.
According to Mateen’s former wife, she would describe him as emotionally and mentally disturbed with a violent temper, yet someone who aspired to be a police officer.
